We recently caught up with Robert Di Franco, Senior Vice President for Projects at Al Hamra Real Estate Development to discuss the renovation and expansion of Manar Mall, Ras al Khaimah’s largest mall.
As a developer of large-scale projects, Di Franco stresses the importance of delivering great customer service and maintaining a solid reputation for delivering quality. He says:
“If the property is a large building, after care and maintenance become an important part of the equation. It is important that we pick a great tile that we can count on to have a low maintenance cost, and to have a responsive supplier that will assist us in after care of their product. This assists the developer in having a competitive edge by keeping property maintenance and management fee’s down.”
Di Franco highlights some key points he had to consider when selecting flooring materials for use in high traffic areas such as Manar Mall. He believes “durability, suitability, and design flexibility” are key to enhancing the guest experience, reducing the cost of maintenance whilst increasing the ease of maintenance following installation.

Speaking about the tiles Di Franco chose for the Manar Mall renovation, he says, “We chose tiles from the RAK Ceramics Lounge and Sursum collections, choosing to contrast Lounge black/grey polished tiles with Sursum in matt white. We also used the tiles to create interesting patterns throughout the mall and RAK Ceramics were able to cut the tiles into specialist sizes and shapes to meet our design needs.” For sanitaryware, Di Franco chose to use the RAK-Venice collection and included the sensor flushing mechanism in the restrooms.
