Background

Mbale Resort Hotel is located in a residential area of Mbale city. As a centrally located city hotel, the resort has played host to many international events including United Nations’ seminars and conferences, Ugandan presidential ceremonies, and regularly hosted top diplomats from embassies and high commissions around the world. In addition to this it is a popular location to stay for business executives and tourists.

Scope

This project was an expansion of the existing facilities of the Mbale Resort Hotel. The additional wing had 74 rooms and suites inclusive of an elegant state-of-the-art presidential suite, 400 seat ballroom, 160 seat function room, top of the range fine dining restaurants, a modern kitchen, bar, modern laundry facility and spacious reception area including a lounge with modern decor. The main contractor, SYL Architects expressed a preference for large format tiles. Therefore bespoke fabrications of RAK Ceramics’ Lounge and Marbleized Slabs were used throughout to provide staircases and vanity units.

Results

In particular the contractors were pleased with the durability of the tiles used and the low maintenance costs. The flexibility of the large format bespoke Lounge and Marbleized Slabs and the production capabilities of RAK Ceramics provided the client with a high quality solution which was also excellent value for money.
