Background

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex (Dubai Sports Complex) is a multipurpose stadium completed in 2010, launched by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. It hosted the FINA World Swimming Championships in 2010, with participants from more than 130 countries and the first time the competition was hosted by an Arab country. With a total capacity of 15,000 spectators, the stadium will host international aquatics events, as well as dry sports events such as basketball, volleyball, netball, and badminton. This iconic project was built at an estimated cost of AED 1.1 billion.

Scope

Dubai Sports Complex is another landmark project in the Gulf region. The innovative design, a blue and silver teardrop, stands out on the horizon at the edge of Dubai land. Central to the complex is the indoor aquatics facility, said to be the best indoor facility in the world. In addition the complex also includes changing rooms for 400 athletes, rooms for umpires, an automatic control room, a stadium that can accommodate 3,000 spectators, main reception area, VIP waiting area, multi- purpose halls, health club, gymnasium, training pools, external garden with 100 trees, flower ponds, a multi-purpose exercise area, a number of restaurants, VIP car parking area, public parking areas for 1,500 cars, and an area for parking buses from clubs, schools, colleges and universities.

Results

Unichroma and Technochroma Series’, modern products of RAK ceramics were chosen to complete the sophisticated look of this prestigious project. Both series’ are high quality, durable and suitable for use in areas with a high volume of foot traffic. In addition the tiles are aesthetically pleasing and complemented the modern design of Dubai Sports Complex.
