bole international airport
Background
Bole International Airport is located 8km southeast of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and is the third busiest airport in Africa, connecting more than 150 flights per day. It is also one of the main pilot training and aircraft maintenance centers in Africa. More recently, the airport became a cargo hub to accommodate the growing volume of commercial traffic in the region.
Scope
The inside of the terminal resembles a modern shopping mall, with plenty of space to meet all the requirements of the experienced international traveler. Considering the heavy footfall of visitors, the architects needed the floor tiles to be extremely durable as well as aesthetically pleasing. RAK Ceramics’ Riviera Series was selected to meet these requirements. The Riviera Series is one of RAK Ceramics’ bestsellers and is a high quality porcelain, ensuring stain and scratch resistance. With a breaking strength of 1600 N, it is easy to maintain and ensures long- term durability. Decorative ceramic wall tiles from the Misty and Jacquard Series were also used.
Results
The high-quality product range of RAK Ceramics added an elegant charm to the busiest airport in Ethiopia. As soon as passengers land at the airport, the classic interiors and shiny ivory floors reflect the contemporary culture of modern Ethiopia.
