In a major step toward industrial decarbonization, RAK Ceramics, one of the world’s largest ceramics manufacturers, and Gulf Cryo, a regional leader in industrial gases and decarbonization solutions, have inaugurated the UAE’s first carbon capture and utilization (CCU) facility dedicated to high-purity CO₂ production.
Owned and operated by Gulf Cryo, the new plant captures around 17,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually from RAK Ceramics’ natural-gas engines and transforms it into 99.99% pure, food-grade CO₂, supplying key sectors including food and beverage, healthcare, agriculture, and energy.
The project underscores RAK Ceramics’ strategic decarbonization roadmap and aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 and Ras Al Khaimah’s Integrated Sustainability Strategy 2050, highlighting how private-sector collaboration can accelerate sustainable industrial transformation.
Inaugurated by Sheikh Saqr bin Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Ceramics, alongside Sami Huneidi, Chief Administrative Officer of Gulf Cryo, and senior executives from both organizations, the facility marks a breakthrough in converting emissions directly at source into valuable industrial resources.
